"CAVU" is an aviation term that means “Ceiling and Visibility Unlimited”. In laymen’s terms, it means there are no restrictions to vision or performance.
CAVUstrategies is a full service management services and advisory firm that uses a proprietary approach to growth strategy developed by its founder who is also a licensed pilot. James has synthesized:
decades of experience as a healthcare and corporate executive,
the grit and grind cultivated from growing up in and from building small businesses and
the prescriptiveness of flight planning learned in becoming a pilot
to develop this methodology.
In his career, James has worked for, led and advised organizations with capital reserves and net revenues in the hundreds of million dollar category with employees in the thousands to those with no budget, no cash flow and no hope. James credits his sustained successes and continued wins to building meaningful relationships, developing infrastructure, systems + processes and creating cultures of accountability all while having fun.
He helps companies establish these components to turn visions and dreams into reality with launch support and to grow existing businesses to scalability.

- $73M Hospital Sale: Led deal team diligence, logistics, pre/post acquisition integration + culture assimilation.
- $64M Hospital Acquisition: Led pre/post acquisition integration + culture assimilation.
- $20M Health Park: Coordinated deal team logistics, led pre/post acquisition integration + served as post acquisition liaison to tenants (sellers).
Market Development + Operations:
- Growth, Market Entry/Defense and Systemization: Developed retail strategy for entire health system - spanned multiple sites, counties (geographic) and multiple business/service lines & departments – including new, expansions and turnarounds.
- $28M Outreach Lab: Orchestrated the infrastructure and operations of an outpatient lab network for an integrated health system and regional clients across a multi-county geographic region.
Small Business:
- Doubled Call (Client) Volume and 25% Margin increase by Year 2; 4x Volume by Year 5 - Redefined market presence, revitalized and rebranded a 90+ year old 3rd generation family business. Included stint as interim leader.
- Led the launch of several private practices:
- Grew from single practitioner to three in Year 1, six total by Year 5 - Directly developed, branded and launched a full-service mental practice - Develop successful model.. No volume decline in pandemic and diversified programs and contracts.
- Coached private practice launch enabling single practitioner (with no prior business experience) practice to promote and grow new practice model and diversify income streams to outpace prior employed physician model by Year 2.
- Developed diversified business lines and established passive income portfolio for family held holding company incl multiple rental property (residential + commercial - 7 doors), outdoor advertising, fleet management and staffing services).
- Launched the company to consolidate business investments and increase leverage under one brand. All ventures and initiatives have produced positive cash flows and year-over-year financial return and asset growth since inception.
